Located in the original airport terminal building, in the heart of the village is the Foynes Flying Boat and Maritime Museum. This award-winning museum captures the story of how Foynes was one of the most important aviation stations in the world from 1937 to 1945.
During this nostalgic era, military personnel, celebrities and refugees were flown on the famous flying boats and were frequent visitors to the area. In 2013 the museum was extended to include a Maritime Museum with information on the Shannon Estuary from this time.
